1. Introduction

FakeCam ("we", "our", or "the Software") is a Windows desktop application that creates a virtual webcam from video and image files. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how our software works.

This Privacy Policy describes what information we access, how we use it, and what choices you have. By downloading or using FakeCam, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

FakeCam is designed with a privacy-first approach. In normal use the desktop application does not collect or transmit your personal data; the only information it sends is the anonymous, optional usage data described below and, if you choose to buy and activate a PRO license, the license details described below. All video and image processing is performed entirely on your local machine and is never uploaded to our servers or any third-party service.

The application checks for updates once per day by contacting our server. When anonymous usage statistics are enabled (you can turn them off in Settings), that same daily request also includes a randomly generated identifier that is not linked to you or your device, the app version, your Windows version, and your interface language, so we can estimate how many people use FakeCam. If the app closes unexpectedly, on the next launch it also sends an anonymous crash report with technical fault details only, as described under Analytics and Tracking below. Neither ever includes your name, email, files, or IP-based identity, and your video and image files always stay on your computer.

License activation (PRO): if you buy a PRO license and activate it in the app, the app sends your email address and license key to our server so we can verify the license and link it to your device using a one-way hardware identifier (not the raw hardware id). We use this only to manage your license: activation, periodic re-validation, and deactivation if you move to another computer or request a refund. Payments are processed by our reseller, Lemon Squeezy; we never receive or store your payment-card details, and we never receive your video or image files.

3. Local Data

FakeCam may store minimal configuration data on your local machine, including:

• The path to the last video or image file you used
• Window position and size preferences

This data is stored locally on your device only. It is never transmitted, synchronized, or backed up to any external server. You can clear this data at any time by uninstalling the application.

4. Website Data

When you visit our website (www.fakecam.net), we may collect standard web server logs including your IP address, browser type, and pages visited. This data is used solely for maintaining and improving the website.

If you use the contact form on our website, we process your name, email, and message for the sole purpose of responding to your inquiry. This data is stored locally on the server and is not shared with third parties.

5. Analytics and Tracking

FakeCam collects minimal, anonymous usage statistics so we can understand how many people use the app and which versions are in use. This is limited to a randomly generated identifier (created locally, not tied to your identity), the app version, your Windows version, your interface language, and whether the app was installed from the Microsoft Store or downloaded from our website, sent at most once per day together with the update check. If FakeCam closes unexpectedly, then on the next launch it also sends an anonymous crash report so we can find and fix the fault: the type of error, a stack trace, and the list of software modules that were loaded, together with the same anonymous identifier and app version. We do not collect the contents of your files or any personal data, and we do not store your IP address with this data. You can turn these off at any time via Settings > "Send anonymous usage statistics", which now covers both the usage statistics and the crash reports. On our website, when you click the "Get PRO" or Buy button, we record that click together with your IP address and approximate country (provided by our CDN, Cloudflare), your browser language, and your device type. We use this only to measure interest in the PRO version and how many clicks turn into a purchase, so we can improve our offer; it is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest, kept on our own server, used only by us, and never sold or shared with third parties.

6. Data Security

Since all data processing occurs locally on your computer, your video and image files are never exposed to network transmission risks. Your files remain on your device and are never accessed by FakeCam beyond what is needed to display them through the virtual camera.

We recommend keeping your operating system up to date to benefit from the latest security patches.

7. Children's Privacy

FakeCam does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). Since we do not collect personal data, no special provisions for children are necessary. However, children should use the software under parental supervision.

8. European Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Because FakeCam does not collect or process personal data through the application, there is no personal data for us to provide, correct, delete, or port.

If you use the contact form on our website, we process your name, email, and message for the sole purpose of responding to your inquiry. This data is processed on the basis of legitimate interest and is not stored beyond what is necessary to respond. The same legitimate-interest basis applies to the limited purchase-interest data described under "Analytics and Tracking" (your IP address, country, language, and device when you click the Buy button); you may ask us to access or delete it using the contact details below.

9. California Users (CCPA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, request its deletion, and opt out of its sale. FakeCam does not collect, sell, or share any personal information as defined by the CCPA.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
